Virginia State Wins 1st USCAA National Championship
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 16, 2025) … AJ Clarke scored off a corner kick feed from Skye Dixon in the 38th minute and the Virginia State Trojans made that goal stand as they defeated Shaw University 1-0 for the USCAA Women’s Division I Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.
Dixon took the corner and found Clarke who buried her first goal of the season and none-bigger than the opening goal of the USCAA Championship contest. The first half saw Virginia State (7-10-1) hold a 5-3 advantage in shots and 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half saw the Shaw Bears pepper VSU goalie Tianna Roberts who made 10 saves in the contest with eight of those coming in the second half. Shaw outshot the Trojans 10-1 in the final 45 minutes but could not get one past Roberts in the net.
On the game, Shaw held a 13-6 advantage in shots and corner kicks were even at five apiece.
This is the first year of membership for Virginia State University and the first national championship for their soccer program. This was the third meeting of the year between the Trojans and the Bears with the final series going 1-1-1. The first contest was a 2-2 tie at Shaw on October 22, while Shaw won the match at Virginia State 2-0 on November 4.
